About The Author

Kamm R

Kamm R. is a 34-year-old author from Carrollton, Texas, who has been writing since childhood. Writing was the only thing that felt real, the one pursuit that made sense when everything else felt uncertain. During his sophomore year of high school, one of his poems was published in the Tennessean newspaper. He later competed in an international poetry contest against 6,500 entries and placed among the top three finalists.

Over the past decade, Kamm has created 23 separate fictional worlds, each designed to support its own book series. ‘Y2K: Awaken’ is the first of these worlds to reach readers. When not writing, he pursues diverse interests, including music, dance, singing, cooking, psychology, philosophy, homeopathic and modern medicine, spirituality, art, pottery, technology innovation, business development, and exploring solutions to global issues and human rights. He is also an avid gamer who enjoys Overwatch 2 and welcomes connections with readers at BIZNEZZMANK2#1194.

Y2K Awaken

‘Y2K: Awaken’ follows Ribecka Tommlyn, Florin Zōchbec, and Sean Mozzner, three college students in Westbrook who feel out of place in their own lives. Each carries deep wounds from complicated family relationships and a sense that they don’t quite belong anywhere. As the year 2000 approaches, something shifts inside each of them.

Ribecka begins seeing glowing threads of time. Florin discovers he can move objects with his mind. Sean becomes overwhelmed by sensing others’ emotions. When their paths cross, they realize invisible threads connect them, visible only to each other.

A shared dream reveals the truth: they are siblings, part of a draconic warrior race called Shrongians, and their biological father has summoned them to compete in the Tournament of Kings. This competition will determine the next Shrongian ruler and test their abilities against 28 challengers from powerful families.

To survive, they must master their unstable powers, heal emotional trauma that blocks their abilities, and learn to trust each other. Their journey becomes about more than winning. It’s about discovering who they really are and finding family in unexpected places.

As someone who grew up in the late 90s, the Y2K setting brought back memories I didn't know I had. But what kept me reading was how the author handles these three broken people learning to trust each other. Florin's character especially got me. The way his abuse disconnected him from his own body, and how that affects his powers, made so much psychological sense.

The sibling relationship is what makes this book work. Three people who should hate each other because of their circumstances, learning they're family and having to figure out what that even means. The emotional growth has to happen first. That's refreshing in a genre where characters usually just get stronger through practice.

I'm a therapist and I appreciate when fiction gets trauma right. This book does. Each sibling's wound matches their power in ways that feel authentic, not gimmicky. Ribecka suppressing emotions affecting time perception, Sean's gaslighting making him doubt his mental abilities, Florin's physical abuse disconnecting him from matter manipulation. The author clearly understands how trauma lives in the body and mind.
